What are the do's and don'ts of the before and after care for my eyelash extensions?

How to care for before and after your eyelash extensions is probably one of the most important things you should know about lash extensions. Knowing the correct way to care for your eyelashes and what to avoid doing and using on your lashes can save you a lot of time and money in the long run.





How to Clean Eyelash Extensions

It’s extremely important to wait for 48hrs after your extensions have been applied and completely cured before you attempt to wash your lashes for the first time.


Below are steps on how to maintain lash extensions.

  • First, remove your eye makeup. You can remove the makeup by applying oil-free removers using a wet cotton tip.

  • The next step is removing the foundation. Any cleanser without oil should do this job.

  • Proceed and wet your lashes with water.

  • Apply a tiny amount of lash shampoo on an eyelash cleansing brush then gently apply to the eyelashes.

  • Gently rinse it off with water.

  • Pat the lashes dry with a towel (lint-free).

  • Use a clean eyelash brush to brush your lashes back into place and to create the perfect curl.

What should I avoid when caring for my eyelash extensions?


First and most importantly you should never use oily or glycerine products when cleaning lashes. These products break down lash glue and cause the detachment of eyelashes. Oil products can be in the form of shampoos, eye creams, conditioners, cleansers, spray toners, moisturizers, to name a few so make sure to check your products label before applying one of these products on your eyelashes.


  • Avoid going to bed with with eye makeup on.

  • Avoid any and all oily products. Make sure to keep then away from the extensions, you should get oil-free removers to get rid of the eye makeup.

  • Avoid wearing mascara or eyeliner, especially waterproof versions, whenever possible. Both of these make cleaning your lashes very difficult and cause you to lose some of your lash extensions with a harsh and vigorous cleaning.

  • Avoid washing your lashes using streaming water from the shower head. This stream of water comes at high pressure and may ruin your extension.

  • Avoid vigorous cleaning of your lashes. Eyelash extensions are delicate. They may fall out if you rub on them with pressure. Instead, use a cleansing brush for gentle rubbing.

  • Avoid products with harsh formulations that might irritate your eyelids.

  • Avoid rubbing your eyes when you have extensions or sleeping on your face to avoid extensions getting into your eyes.


The do's when caring for your eyelash extensions


  • Use mineral-based products are ideal for lash extension maintenance. They are the perfect alternative for destructive oil formulations.

  • Cleanse your lashes at least every other day. If you have oily eyelids, the care routine might be daily.

  • Wipe off any unsafe extension cleanser before rinsing your lashes with water.

  • Instead of cotton buds, dab with a tissue to remove makeup.

  • Cleanse your extensions at night before retiring for bed. You eliminate all the day’s dust, makeup, dirt, oil, and debris.

  • Water does not damage eyelash extension however a direct stream from the shower will. When learning how to clean lash extensions at home, you should embrace clean water. Water becomes an issue if you wet your lash extensions within 48 hours of their application.
